Mini Truck Sales Reach 31,000 Units, Up 15%

Date:2025-09-29

China’s mini truck market has had a bumpy ride so far in 2025. In the first seven months, sales went up and down, leaving cumulative sales by July down 18% compared to last year.

In August, the overall truck market grew 17% year-on-year. Mini trucks sold 30,800 units — a 6% drop from July but a 15% increase compared with August 2024. This marks the second consecutive month of year-on-year growth for mini trucks, although their growth still lags behind the broader truck market.

Looking at the past five years, August mini truck sales have fluctuated. This year’s August performance ranks third in that period — higher than last year but below the record set in August 2023. From January to August 2025, cumulative sales reached 285,900 units, the lowest in five years and about 50,000 units fewer than the same period last year.

August Mini Truck Market Performance

Seven companies sold mini trucks in August, one fewer than last month. Compared with last year, four companies saw growth while three declined. Wuling remained the clear leader, selling 15,900 units and capturing 51.7% of the market. Chery and Changan followed with 5,185 and 4,478 units, taking second and third place with 16.9% and 14.6% market share. Shandong Kama sold 2,456 units (8%), while Dongfeng and YuanCheng each sold over 1,000 units, accounting for 5.1% and 3.5%. Together, the top six brands covered nearly the entire market (99.7%).

Cumulative Sales (January–August 2025)

From January to August, mini trucks sold 285,900 units, down 15% year-on-year. Two companies recorded growth, while six saw declines. Chery’s cumulative sales rose 62%, and Yuchai New Energy also achieved net growth. Five companies declined by double digits, with the largest drop at 41%.

Looking at cumulative market share, Wuling leads with 50.4%, followed by Changan at 18.3% and Chery at 13.5%. Shandong Kama holds 9.05%, Dongfeng 5.44%, and YuanCheng 3.00%. All other companies account for less than 0.5% each.

In short, the mini truck market grew in January and February, fell from March to June, and bounced back in July and August. After August, cumulative sales are down 18% year-on-year, nearly 50,000 units fewer than last year. With only four months left in 2025, achieving full-year growth will remain a significant challenge for the market.
