China’s Light Truck Market Surpasses 2 Million Units in 2025
China’s light truck market maintained steady growth in 2025, with full-year sales exceeding 2 million units, according to industry data. Foton Motor remained the market leader, while several manufacturers—including JAC, Geely Farizon, Yuejin and Changan—improved their rankings, reflecting shifts in the competitive landscape.
December Sales Extend Growth Streak
In December 2025, China’s commercial vehicle market recorded a 15% year-on-year increase in sales, with total truck volumes rising 17%, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) showed.

Light trucks—covering light-duty trucks, mini trucks and pickups—posted sales of 199,900 units during the month, up 14% year on year and 11% from November. This marked the 11th consecutive month of year-on-year growth, making light trucks the only commercial vehicle segment to sustain such a streak in 2025.

While heavy-duty and mini trucks outperformed the overall market in December, light trucks continued to deliver stable growth.
December Volumes Rank Among Decade Highs
Historically, year-end months are not considered peak season for truck sales, though November and December typically record relatively high volumes. Over the past decade, December light truck sales have generally ranged between 150,000 and 200,000 units.

At nearly 200,000 units, December 2025 ranked among the strongest December performances in the past ten years.
For the full year, light truck sales reached 2.0236 million units, placing 2025 as the third-highest year for the segment over the past decade and slightly above the long-term range of 1.6–2.0 million units.
Light trucks accounted for 54.36% of total truck sales in 2025, remaining above the 50% threshold for the fourth consecutive year, though down from 2024.
Seven Manufacturers Post Monthly Sales Above 10,000 Units
In December, seven manufacturers each recorded light truck sales exceeding 10,000 units.

Several brands posted strong year-on-year growth, with Changan, Geely Farizon and Yuejin emerging as the fastest-growing players during the month.
Foton Leads Full-Year Rankings as Market Shares Shift
For the full year of 2025, Foton sold 445,200 light trucks, maintaining its position as the market leader with a 22.0% share.

Changan, Great Wall, JAC and Dongfeng each reported annual sales exceeding 170,000 units, while JMC, Geely Farizon and Sinotruk surpassed 100,000 units. Yuejin and Xinyuan completed the top ten, both selling more than 90,000 units.
In terms of growth, Geely Farizon and BYD recorded the fastest increases, with year-on-year gains of 60% and 231%, respectively. Sinotruk and Yuejin also expanded faster than the market average.
Several manufacturers gained market share compared with 2024, most notably Geely Farizon and BYD, while others experienced declines.
Outlook
China’s light truck market delivered moderate but consistent growth in 2025, remaining the largest segment within the country’s truck industry. However, its annual growth rate lagged behind the broader truck market.
As 2026 begins, market performance will depend on demand recovery, regulatory conditions and intensifying competition among manufacturers.
