China’s Medium-Duty Truck Sales Fall to 8,125 Units in February, 2026
China’s medium-duty truck market lost momentum in February after a strong start to 2026, with sales declining year-on-year and ending the five-month growth streak seen through January.

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), total truck sales in February reached 240,400 units, down 26% month-on-month and 14% year-on-year. Medium-duty trucks, including chassis, recorded sales of 8,125 units, falling 42% from January and 5% compared with a year earlier.
The February decline marked a reversal from January’s 33% year-on-year growth, ending the recent growth trend.

Historically, February has been a weaker month for the segment. Over the past five years, only February 2022 exceeded 100,000 units (108,000 units). At just over 8,100 units, February 2026 ranked the second lowest in the past five years, down about 400 units from a year earlier and roughly 2,700 units below the recent peak.
Despite the monthly decline, year-to-date performance remained positive. In the first two months of 2026, medium-duty truck sales totaled 22,200 units, up 16% year-on-year and the highest level for the same period in five years. However, the growth rate slowed from 33% recorded after January.
MarketPerformance varied widely across manufacturers. Of the top 10 companies by February sales, five reported year-on-year growth while five posted declines. SINOTRUK, Dongfeng, SHACMAN, Zhejiang Feidie and Weichai New Energy recorded gains of 52%, 10%, 24%, 148% and 247%, respectively. Meanwhile, several manufacturers saw double-digit declines, with the steepest drop reaching 32%.
Industry concentration remained high, with the top 10 players accounting for 98.4% of total February sales and the top five holding a combined share of 84.9%.
FAW TRUCKS retained its leading position, selling 2,376 units and capturing a 29.2% market share. SINOTRUK, Dongfeng and JAC ranked second through fourth with 1,338, 1,312 and 1,284 units, respectively, with market shares of 16.5%, 16.1% and 15.8%, highlighting intense competition among the three.
Foton, Qingling, BYD and SHACMAN ranked fifth to eighth, while Zhejiang Feidie and Weichai New Energy completed the top 10.

FAW TRUCKS, SINOTRUK, Sanhuan, SHACMAN and Weichai New Energy all outperformed the market, with year-on-year growth rates of 67%, 90%, 872%, 101% and 380%, respectively. By contrast, Dongfeng and Qingling posted modest increases of 10% and 9%, lagging overall market growth, with the worst-performing company down by as much as 60%

FAW TRUCKS also led the market in cumulative terms, with 8,280 units sold and a 37.3% share. SINOTRUK, JAC and Dongfeng followed, while Foton and Qingling ranked fifth and sixth.

Compared with the same period last year, FAW TRUCKS, SINOTRUK, Sanhuan, SHACMAN and Weichai New Energy all expanded their market share, with FAW TRUCKS, SINOTRUK and Sanhuan recording the largest gains.
Although February sales declined by 5% year-on-year, cumulative growth of 16% continued to outperform the broader truck market by around 10 percentage points. Whether this trend can be sustained in the coming months remains uncertain.
