China Tractor Truck Sales Drop in February, NEVs Gain Share

Date:2026-03-31

China’s tractor truck market saw a sharp decline in February 2026, mainly due to the Chinese New Year holiday. Total heavy-duty truck sales reached 28,400 units, down more than 40% both month-on-month and year-on-year. As the largest segment, tractor trucks also declined, ending a 10-month growth streak.

In February 2026, tractor truck sales totaled 15,500 units (insurance registration data, excluding exports and military vehicles). This was down 38% from January and down 47% year-on-year, a drop of about 14,000 units compared to February 2025. The overall heavy-duty truck market fell 41% year-on-year, meaning tractor trucks performed worse than the broader market.

Tractor trucks accounted for 54.59% of total heavy-duty truck sales in February, up from 51.57% in January. February is usually a low season. From 2022 to 2025, average February sales were about 23,000 units. The 15,500 units in February 2026 were well below this level, ranking as the second lowest in the past five years.

Among manufacturers, FAW TRUCKS ranked first in February with 3,735 units, followed by Sinotruk with 3,122 units. Foton ranked third with 2,068 units. Dongfeng and SHACMAN ranked fourth and fifth with 1,809 and 1,539 units, respectively. All other companies sold fewer than 1,000 units.
