China Mini Truck Sales Up 15% in March, Extending Growth Streak

Date:2026-04-27

China’s mini truck market continued its upward trend in March 2026, outperforming other segments as overall truck demand strengthened during the traditional peak season.
Total truck sales in China reached 440,000 units in March, up 83% from February and 12% year-on-year, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Mini truck sales totaled 53,900 units, marking a 30% month-on-month increase and a 15% rise from a year earlier, in line with the previous month’s growth rate. The segment has now recorded nine consecutive months of expansion since July 2025, making it the only truck segment to sustain continuous growth in recent months

Over the past five years, March sales in the mini truck segment have generally remained above 50,000 units. The March 2026 figure ranks as the third-highest level in that period, exceeding March 2025 by approximately 12,200 units.

In the first quarter of 2026, cumulative mini truck sales reached 139,200 units, the second-highest level in five years, up by around 33,000 units compared with the same period last year.

Performance Diverges Among Manufacturers

Despite overall market growth, performance among manufacturers was uneven.

Eight companies reported sales in March, unchanged from the previous month. Of these, five posted year-on-year gains while three declined.

SAIC-GM-Wuling, Geely Farizon and Foton Motor recorded growth of 42%, 34% and 22%, respectively, outperforming the overall market.

Changan Automobile reported a 6% increase, while Shandong REACH recorded positive growth.

Several manufacturers, however, reported sharp declines, with the steepest drop reaching 63%, underscoring uneven market dynamics.

Market Concentration Remains High

Market concentration remained elevated in March, with two manufacturers each holding more than 10% share.

SAIC-GM-Wuling retained a dominant lead, selling 33,300 units and accounting for 61.9% of the market.

Changan Automobile ranked second with 10,300 units and a 19.0% share.

Chery Commercial Vehicles and KAMA Automobile placed third and fourth, with 3,861 units and 3,492 units, representing 7.2% and 6.5%, respectively.

Geely Farizon and Dongfeng Motor Corporation ranked fifth and sixth, each selling over 1,000 units.

Shandong REACH and Foton Motor followed, with market shares of 0.4% and 0.2%, respectively.

First-Quarter Growth Moderates

From January to March 2026, mini truck sales rose to 139,200 units, up 31% year-on-year. However, the growth rate slowed by 13 percentage points from the 44% increase recorded after February.

Among the eight manufacturers, four reported growth while four declined.

SAIC-GM-Wuling, Geely Farizon and Foton Motor continued to expand, posting gains of 91%, 18% and 27%, respectively. Shandong REACH also recorded net growth.

Meanwhile, several manufacturers reported double-digit declines, with the largest drop reaching 69%.

Market Share in Q1

In the first quarter, SAIC-GM-Wuling dominated the market with a 70.9% share, while Changan Automobile accounted for 12.6%.

Chery Commercial Vehicles, KAMA Automobile, Geely Farizon and Dongfeng Motor Corporation ranked third to sixth, all with single-digit shares.

All remaining manufacturers held less than 1% of the market.

Outlook

Mini truck sales rose 15% year-on-year in March 2026, extending a steady growth trend through the first quarter.

As the only truck segment maintaining continuous expansion, the mini truck market has shown relative resilience.

Whether this momentum can be sustained in the coming months will depend on underlying demand conditions.
