China Tractor Truck Sales Reach 65,100 Units in April, Highest in Five Years
China’s tractor truck market posted strong growth in April 2026, outperforming the broader heavy-duty truck sector as logistics demand continued to recover during the industry’s traditional peak sales season.
According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), China sold 65,100 tractor trucks in April, up 53% year-on-year, despite a 10% decline from March levels. The growth rate significantly exceeded the overall heavy-duty truck market, which rose 33% during the same period.

The April result marked the strongest April performance for China’s tractor truck market in the past five years and the first time since 2021 that monthly April sales exceeded 50,000 units. Compared with the same month last year, the market added approximately 22,600 units.
On a longer-term basis, April 2026 recorded the third-highest April sales volume in the past decade, behind only April 2020 and April 2021.
For the first four months of 2026, cumulative tractor truck sales reached 227,900 units, representing a 28% year-on-year increase and an additional 50,000 units compared with the same period in 2025.
Sinotruk maintained its position as the market leader, selling more than 17,000 tractor trucks in April and capturing a 26.4% market share. FAW Jiefang ranked second and recorded the strongest growth among major manufacturers, with sales surging 97% year-on-year.

XCMG remained among the fastest-growing truck manufacturers in the market. The company’s cumulative tractor truck sales exceeded 10,000 units during the January-April period, up 94% year-on-year.
Market concentration remained high, with the The top five manufacturers accounted for 87.9% of total market sales in April. The top ten companies together held 97.8% of the market.

By the end of April, Sinotruk’s cumulative sales had reached 58,500 units, followed by FAW Jiefang with 51,600 units. SHACMAN, Foton, and Dongfeng each recorded cumulative sales exceeding 20,000 units.
Industry analysts said improving freight demand and seasonal purchasing activity continued to support the recovery of China’s heavy truck sector. The strong April performance suggests freight activity and transport demand continued to improve.
With China’s traditional spring sales season now coming to an end, market participants are closely watching whether the current growth momentum can be sustained through the remainder of 2026.
