China’s Medium Truck Sales Reach 13,000 in April, Up 5% Year-on-Year

Medium truck sales in China reached 13,000 units in April, up 5% year-on-year and 1% month-on-month, marking the second consecutive month of growth.

According to industry data, China’s overall truck market sold 344,000 units in April, up 7% from the same month last year. Medium trucks accounted for 13,000 units, marking a 5% year-on-year increase and a 1% rise from March, the second consecutive month of growth.

Over the past five years, April medium truck sales have fluctuated in a “down-up-up-down-up” pattern. April 2026’s 13,000 units represent the highest April sales in this period, while cumulative sales from January to April reached 48,100 units, about 6,300 more than the same period last year. Year-to-date growth now stands at 15%, slightly below March’s 19% pace.

Foton Tops April, FAW TRUCKS Follows, JAC and Sinotruk Battle for Third

Among the top ten medium truck makers in April, seven reported sales gains, while two saw declines. Strong performers included Foton (+303%), JAC (+26%), BYD (+20%), Qingling (+33%), SHACMAN (+99%), Tri-Ring (+285%), and Weichai New Energy (+80%). Two companies experienced double-digit declines, with the largest drop at 48%.

Foton sold 3,089 units in April, capturing a 23.7% market share and claiming its first monthly lead of 2026. FAW TRUCKS followed with 2,636 units (20.3%), while JAC, Sinotruk, and Dongfeng ranked third to fifth with 1,779, 1,319, and 1,093 units, respectively. BYD, Qingling, and SHACMAN each sold more than 500 units, and Tri-Ring and Weichai New Energy accounted for 3.1% and 1.9% of the market.

Year-to-Date Sales Show Foton, FAW TRUCKS, and Sinotruk Contending for Top Spots

From January to April, cumulative medium truck sales totaled 48,100 units, up 15% year-on-year. Eight of the top ten companies saw growth, including FAW TRUCKS(+21%), Foton (+37%), Sinotruk (+27%), Tri-Ring (+596%), SHACMAN (+79%), and Weichai New Energy (+129%). Dongfeng and BYD posted marginal gains, while the weakest performer declined 15%.

FAW TRUCKS leads year-to-date sales with 15,600 units (32.4% share). Foton, JAC, and Sinotruk follow closely with 6,383, 6,154, and 6,013 units, holding 13.3%, 12.8%, and 12.5% shares. Dongfeng sold 5,329 units (11.1%), while Qingling, BYD, Tri-Ring, and SHACMAN accounted for 4.8%, 4.1%, 3.7%, and 2.8%. Weichai New Energy sold 603 units, or 1.3% of the market.

Compared with last year, market shares for FAW TRUCKS, Foton, Sinotruk, Tri-Ring, SHACMAN, and Weichai New Energy rose, with the biggest gains recorded by Foton (+2.2 percentage points), Tri-Ring (+3.1), FAW TRUCKS (+1.7), and Sinotruk (+1.2).

April’s 13,000 medium truck sales, up 5% year-on-year, mark the second consecutive month of growth. Year-to-date growth now stands at 15%, seven points higher than the overall truck market. Analysts will be watching whether the market can maintain its momentum into May.
