China’s Heavy Truck Sales Slip 1% in July, 2026
China’s heavy truck market recorded a slight decline in July 2026, with sales falling 1% year on year to 84,000 units.
According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), sales of heavy trucks, including truck chassis and tractor trucks, fell 28% from June and 1% from July 2025.
The July decline ended a run of year-on-year growth that began in March 2026.
Despite the decline, July sales remained relatively strong by historical standards. July is traditionally a slow period for road freight, with average heavy truck sales in July over the past 10 years, excluding 2026, at around 75,000 units. Sales exceeded 100,000 units only once during that period, in July 2020.
Heavy truck sales increased in six of the past 10 Julys and declined in four. The 84,000 units sold in July 2026 ranked fourth over the past 10 years and second over the past five years.
January-July Sales Reach 744,900 Units
Despite the weaker July result, the heavy truck market continued to grow in the first seven months of 2026.
China sold 744,900 heavy trucks from January to July, up 19% year on year and about 121,000 units from the same period of 2025.
The figure was the highest January-July sales total in the past five years. It was also the only time in the past five years that cumulative sales had exceeded 700,000 units by the end of July.
On a 10-year comparison, January-July sales in 2026 ranked fourth.
The growth rate, however, slowed from earlier in the year. The 19% increase was 4 percentage points lower than the 23% growth recorded in the first half of 2026.
Sinotruk Keeps the Lead as Foton Moves Up to Second
Four manufacturers sold more than 10,000 heavy trucks in July, one fewer than in June.
Sinotruk remained the market leader with sales of 30,200 units, keeping its monthly sales above 30,000 units.
Foton moved up to second place with 12,000 units.
Shaanxi Auto ranked third with 11,100 units, followed by FAW Jiefang with 10,000 units. Dongfeng ranked fifth with 8,637 units.
The top 10 manufacturers accounted for 97.0% of the heavy truck market in July, while the top five held a combined 85.6% share.
Each of the top five manufacturers held more than 10% of the market. Sinotruk had the largest share at 35.9%, well ahead of its competitors.
XCMG Posts Strongest Growth Among Top 10
Seven of the top 10 manufacturers recorded year-on-year sales growth in July, while three saw sales decline.
Sinotruk, Foton, XCMG, JAC, Farizon and United Truck recorded growth of 33%, 4%, 73%, 8%, 22% and 27%, respectively. Shandong Leichi also recorded year-on-year growth.
XCMG was the fastest-growing manufacturer among the top 10, with July sales up 73% from a year earlier.
Foton and XCMG have also maintained long growth streaks. Both recorded 12 consecutive months of year-on-year growth in 2025, and the trend continued into 2026. Their current growth streaks have now reached or exceeded 20 consecutive months.

Shandong Leichi returned to the top 10, ranking ninth after placing 11th in June.
Foton climbed three places from fifth in June to second in July.
JAC moved up one place from eighth to seventh.
Sinotruk, Shaanxi Auto and XCMG kept their June positions.
Sinotruk Sales Top 200,000 Units in January-July
Sinotruk also remained the top-selling heavy truck manufacturer for the first seven months of 2026.
The company sold 218,700 units from January to July, giving it a 29.4% market share.
FAW Jiefang, Shaanxi Auto, Dongfeng and Foton followed with sales of 126,400, 111,100, 105,900 and 102,000 units, respectively. Their market shares were 17.0%, 14.9%, 14.2% and 13.7%.

The top 10 manufacturers accounted for 97.2% of total heavy truck sales from January to July, while the top five held a combined 89.1% share.

Sinotruk, Foton and XCMG Gain Market Share

Foton, XCMG, United Truck and Farizon recorded cumulative sales growth of 31%, 60%, 70% and 31%, respectively, making them the fastest-growing manufacturers among the top 10.
Sinotruk’s cumulative sales increased 27%, also above the overall market growth rate of 19%.
FAW Jiefang and Beiqi Heavy Truck posted double-digit growth, while Shaanxi Auto and Dongfeng recorded single-digit growth.
Only one of the top 10 manufacturers saw cumulative sales decline, with sales down 28% year on year.
July Market Remains Relatively Stable
Overall, China’s heavy truck market sold 84,000 units in July 2026, down 1% year on year and 28% from June.
While July sales declined year on year, the result was broadly in line with seasonal trends, as July is traditionally a slow period for the heavy truck market.
August is normally the quietest month of the year for heavy truck sales. Market performance in August 2026 will provide the next indication of how demand is developing in the second half of the year.
