China is drafting new regulations on truck recall
China is drafting new regulations concerning the recall of faulty trucks for inspection, according to the nation's quality supervisors.
The State Administration for Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine (SAQSIQ) said it will publicize a new auto recall system to regulate the truck sector in the country.
Though automobile recall is a well-known phenomenon in western countries especially in the U.S.A., it is a relatively new concept in the Asian automobile market. China has made some progress in this field since it announced regulations on the recall of flawed sedans in 2004.
Statistics showed a total of 1.84 million sedans of 54 automobile manufacturers were recalled since 2004 in China, but that number only accounts for one fifth of the annual recall volume in the U.S., SAQSIQ said.
Over the past 30 years, the output and sales of China's heavy-duty trucks have increased from 4,131 units in 1978 to 540,000 units in 2008, and is expected to reach 600,000 units this year. A well-established truck recall system will complement the car recall system in promoting mature consumer oriented industry.
