Beijing orders 22 fire truck chassis from Spartan Motors
(chinatrucks.com, Feb.23, 2010)Spartan Motors Chassis Inc., a subsidiary of Spartan Motors Inc. in the United States, said last week that Beijing Fire Department ordered 22 of its Metro Star pumper chassis for fire trucks, AP reported.
The U.S. truck chassis company said the order was the largest one it has ever received from buyers in China since it began doing business there in 2002. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The contract calls for Spartan to deliver chassis to W.S. Darley & Co. in Itasca, Ill., which will add the body and pump systems to the trucks. The trucks are scheduled for delivery by the third quarter this year.
"The Metro Star Pumper ... has proven itself to be one of the most reliable and effective fire trucks … in the world," said the CEO of Spartan Motors. "An order of this size represents an incredible opportunity for Spartan to expand awareness of our products in the Chinese market."
The chassis will conform to Chinese standards and meet the unique needs of Beijing Fire Department. Each vehicle will include the model's trademark spacious cab design, featuring a flat floor, various seating configurations and raised roof.
