Trailer Orders Slow but Backlog Continues to Grow in the US
www.chinatrucks.com: Net orders for commercial trailers in the US fell 9% in May, marking the second consecutive month of decline.
However, commercial trailer backlogs continued to grow, ending the month at 102,500 units, up 1% from April.
The latest ACT Research State of the Industry: US Trailers report released June 24 indicates the industry build rate was up 87% over May 2010 while the industry backlog was up 122% over the same time period.
"The decline in April net orders was actually in line with what would be expected from normal industry patterns," said Frank Maly, director commercial vehicle transportation analysis and research with ACT. "The order board continues to appear solid, as supported by extremely low order cancellations. Fleets have taken their positions in OEMs' production plans and, so far, are maintaining those commitment.
