The 2012 Volvo Trucks Fuelwatch Competition Sets to Start
www.chinatrucks.com: In Sanya today, Volvo Trucks announced the launch of its 2012 Fuelwatch Competition. Compared to previous competitions, Volvo Trucks will provide open driver trainings to general drivers, and host the “Volvo Trucks Fuelwatch Ambassador” online vote, aimed at improving driving behaviours and skills.

Volvo Trucks has been hosting the Fuelwatch Competition in China since 2009. The goal is to cultivate good driving behaviors and enhance consciousness regarding fuel-saving and environmental conservation, as well as to contribute to the community. Participating drivers will compete in areas of formal knowledge and operating skills. The results of the competition are always impressive, as judged by the substantial gap between the first and last place in such a top-level event. This year, Volvo Trucks will provide open driver training sessions to all truck drivers, including non-Volvo Trucks drivers. During the open driver trainings, drivers will receive guidance in terms of knowledge and operating skills. In this way, Volvo Trucks seeks to extend driving knowledge and skills to a wider group.

Mr. Eric Labat, President of Volvo Trucks Greater China
Mr. Eric Labat, President of Volvo Trucks Greater China said, “Volvo Trucks has been committed to environmentally friendly manufacturing and driving; thus, we are continuously promoting good driving behaviors and advanced fuel-saving driving skills through knowledge sharing. Additionally, we are very much committed to providing a better working environment for truck drivers as a way of improving their quality of life. All of these are must-dos as a socially responsible corporation.”

Facing with the soaring fuel price and devastating environment, Volvo Trucks is insisting on a principle of “Every Drop Accounts” to enable its trucks reduce fuel consumption at the rate of 1% per year through the use of advanced technology. In addition, Volvo Trucks keeps emphasizing soft skills that facilitate the improvement of fuel efficiency. Through its fuel-efficiency related services of Total Transport Solutions, including professional drivers training, performance measurements, and lean fuel services, Volvo Trucks helps customers reduce fuel costs.
And Volvo Trucks statistics show that driving behavior is relevance to impacts on fuel consumption by 20% and a poor driving skill can cause a 50% increase in fuel consumption. Volvo Trucks regards decreasing more fuel consumptions and building up better driving behavior for Chinese logistics companies as a matter of increase their capabilities of fuel saving and low emissions as well as increase their operational effectiveness and profitability.

Fuel-saving has always been one of the biggest challenges within China’s logistics industry, not only because fuel cost form a large proportion of total logistics costs, but also because the reduction of energy and pollutants is a global trend and national policy. The proportion of fuel costs of heavy-duty truck owners in Chinese companies are double the proportion of costs in companies in Sweden, France, Japan, and other countries. China’s Department of Transportation of China has already set goals for fuel saving and low emission within the 12th Five-Year Plan: decrease energy consumption by 10% per unit of transportation turnover, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 11%.
The winner of 2012’s competition will be awarded RMB 10,000 and obliged to enter into the global competition in Gothenburg Sweden. His representing company will be awarded Volvo Trucks after-sales services valued RMB 10,000 as incentive.
The winner of the “Volvo Trucks Fuelwatch Ambassador” will be selected through online contest and voting at?360che.com, and will be awarded a trip to Sweden to visit the Global Final and return with fuel-saving environmental conservation stories from all of the stages of a truck’s life cycle, from raw materials to extraction, truck manufacturing to transportation.
