Beijing Brand Heavy-duty Truck to be Launched
www.chinatrucks.com: Beijing Automobile Works (BAW) has set up a project construction department and started to recruit heavy-duty truck engineers and sellers, indicating a launch of heavy-duty truck project, reported chinatruck.org.
Huanghua Automobile Industrial Park has become a subsidiary of BAW starting from June 21, 2011. With an area of 1.73 million square meters, the park includes whole vehicle and auto parts industrial zones. The whole vehicle zone mainly produces trucks, off-road vehicles, light buses, and microbuses and relevant auto parts, with a production capacity of 400,000 units of whole vehicles and key components. This production base is expected to be put into test and operation in the second quarter of 2013 with production capacity of the first phase reaching 200,000 units.

According to insiders of BAW, the Beijing brand heavy-duty trucks to be launched are based on the Steyr platform and equipped with Weichai engines and Fast transmissions. First batch of vehicles to be produced will be trailers and self-dumpers, said the insiders. And BMW will set Hebei Province as its entry market.
The Auman brand truck of Beijing Automobile Industry Corp. (BAIC) has set its feet on China’s heavy-duty truck market and BAIC is exploring the overseas market together with its joint venture partner Daimler Group. As China’s heavy-duty truck sales have been dropping for two years, the prospect of Beijing brand heavy-duty trucks remains to be seen.
