Nissan, FedEx to Test Electric Cargo Vehicle Nissan e-NV200 in US
www.chinatrucks.com: Japanese automaker Nissan Motor has partnered with FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx, to test its new Nissan e-NV200, a 100% electric compact cargo vehicle, under real world conditions in Washington, DC.
Nissan e-NV200 is the second electric vehicle for the company globally, following Nissan LEAF. It is claimed to strengthen Nissan's presence in zero emission mobility.
The vehicle is equipped with advanced lithium-ion battery composed of 48 compact modules mated with an 80kW AC synchronous motor. The motor will generate 107HP and 187 lb-ft of torque.
Other features of the vehicle include front-wheel drive, a larger cargo area, and a low load floor. It has six feet of loading space; a 188 cubic feet load capacity and can haul an estimated payload of 1,000lbs.
FedEx will deploy the Nissan e-NV200 in the Washington DC area, where it will undergo field tests for approximately six weeks. The company will use the results to determine the viability of using an electric vehicle in this role in the US and for further development and refinement of the mass production version of the e-NV200.
The production of this vehicle is scheduled to begin later this year in Europe.
