CATL’s First Plant in North China Broke Ground
The Beijing Contemporary Amperex Battery Base project, controlled by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL), commenced construction yesterday (June 18th) in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. This project marks CATL's first battery factory in North China and will be constructed in two phases, with plans to commence production by 2026. The batteries produced here will supply new energy vehicle manufacturers such as BAIC, Xiaomi Auto, and Li Auto, enhancing Beijing's new energy smart vehicle industry chain.
Previously, Beijing Contemporary Amperex Battery Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL), BAIC BluePark, Beijing Energy Technology Co., Ltd., and Xiaomi Auto, was established and registered in Yizhuang, Beijing.
Beijing Contemporary Amperex Battery Base project, as part of Beijing's three key projects for 2024 and one of the 30 advanced manufacturing projects, is situated on plot N43 in Yizhuang, Beijing. It is strategically located adjacent to Xiaomi Auto's Yizhuang factory. The site covers an area of 260,000 square meters and is designed according to the standard of a “lighthouse + zero carbon” factory. The plant will introduce CATL’s state-of-the-art, high-speed, highly automated and flexible production lines for the production of new energy power batteries.
CATL and BAIC Group recently reached a strategic cooperation agreement, aiming to collaborate on several fronts including power battery supply, battery swapping, V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) technology integration, joint development and application of Integrated Intelligent Chassis (CIIC) new products, among others.
The cooperation between BAIC Group and CATL aims to leverage their respective technological strengths and integrate resources to jointly drive the development of the new energy vehicle industry. The cooperation will include the supply of power batteries to ensure the energy needs of new energy vehicles.
The application of battery swapping technology aims to enhance the charging convenience of new energy vehicles, while the development of V2G technology aims to achieve interaction between new energy vehicles and the grid, thereby improving energy utilization efficiency.
Another highlight of this collaboration is the introduction of battery swapping and V2G technology. With the continuous growth of the new energy vehicle market, the convenience of battery swapping and the innovation of V2G technology are becoming increasingly prominent. The partnership between the two parties will accelerate the promotion and application of these technologies, aiming to provide users with a more convenient and intelligent travel experience.
Additionally, they will collaborate on the development of CIIC integrated intelligent chassis new products to meet the demands of the new energy vehicle market. The development of these new products will leverage the technical strengths of both parties, thereby enhancing the technological content and market competitiveness of the products.
