Pony.ai Unveils Gen-4 Autonomous Trucks, Targeting Mass Production in 2026
Beijing, China – [Nov 27, 2025] /Chinatrucks.org/ – Pony AI Inc. (NASDAQ: PONY; HKEX: 2026), a global leader in autonomous driving, announced new partnerships with SANY Truck and Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor to develop its fourth-generation autonomous truck platform, known as the Gen-4 Autonomous Truck.
The new system features a fully modular architecture designed to integrate seamlessly with multiple vehicle platforms. The first two models will be built on the latest battery-electric platforms from SANY Truck and Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor. Both models are engineered for mass production at the thousand-unit scale, with initial commercial deployment slated for 2026. Pony.ai said the rollout of Gen-4 trucks will push autonomous trucking closer to large-scale commercial adoption.
A major upgrade in the Gen-4 platform is the use of 100% automotive-grade components, drawing heavily from Pony.ai’s latest Robotaxi technology. This approach is expected to cut the bill of materials by about 70% compared with the previous generation. The lower system cost, together with enhanced operational efficiency, is projected to accelerate the economics of autonomous freight.
In trial operations, Pony.ai’s “1+4” platooning model — one human-driven lead truck guiding four driverless trucks — has shown promising gains, reducing freight cost per kilometer by 29% and improving profit margins by 195% compared with conventional trucking.
The Gen-4 trucks adopt Pony.ai’s fully redundant Robotaxi-grade safety architecture, designed for a service life of 20,000 hours and capable of supporting up to 1 million kilometers of operation. The platform includes full redundancy across six critical systems: steering, braking, power supply, communication, computing, and perception sensors. The vehicles will also undergo comprehensive durability and environmental testing — including EMC, reliability, high-temperature, and extreme-cold validation — to ensure safe performance in complex road and weather conditions.
China, the world’s largest long-haul trucking market, is accelerating its shift toward intelligent, autonomous logistics. Since entering the trucking sector in 2018, Pony.ai has grown its autonomous truck fleet to roughly 200 vehicles, accumulated over 1 billion ton-kilometers of freight operations, and secured some of China’s earliest road-test and commercial freight permits for autonomous trucks.
