Dongfeng Cummins Expands Presence in Vietnam as Overseas Business Gains Momentum
Dongfeng Cummins is strengthening its position in overseas markets, with Vietnam emerging as one of the company's fastest-growing international destinations.
On May 27, 2026, a batch of Dongfeng Tianjin KR trucks powered by Dongfeng Cummins ISB5.9 and ISD6.7 engines was delivered to customers in Vietnam through Hoang Huy Group, Dongfeng's local distributor. The delivery marks another milestone in the company's expansion across Southeast Asia and highlights growing demand for Dongfeng Cummins-powered vehicles in the region.

Vietnam has become a key market for Dongfeng Cummins, supported by steady economic growth and increasing demand for transportation and logistics services. To better meet local operating requirements, the company worked with Dongfeng Import & Export and Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle engineering teams to conduct extensive market research and product adaptation.
Based on Vietnam's climate and operating conditions, Dongfeng Cummins optimized engine performance for high-temperature environments, improved combustion efficiency to balance power and fuel economy, and enhanced protection against dust and humidity. These upgrades were designed to improve reliability, durability, and overall operating efficiency for local customers.

The company's localization efforts are part of a broader international strategy focused on developing products and services tailored to specific market needs.
Dongfeng Cummins works closely with vehicle manufacturers to develop market-specific solutions that meet local regulations and operating requirements. The company also supports overseas certification programs to help accelerate market entry for Dongfeng commercial vehicles in different regions.
In addition to product development, Dongfeng Cummins leverages Cummins' global service network and local OEM service systems to provide lifecycle support for customers. Services include technical assistance, maintenance training, field support, and specialized service tools aimed at improving vehicle uptime and reducing operating costs.
The strategy is delivering strong results across international markets.
From January to May 2026, overseas installations of Dongfeng commercial vehicles equipped with Dongfeng Cummins engines increased by 44% year-on-year.
Vietnam remained the company's largest overseas market during the period, with exports exceeding 1,000 units, up 80% compared with the same period last year. Orders for special-purpose vehicles surpassed 500 units.
Elsewhere, Dongfeng Cummins reported significant growth in several international markets. Sales increased by 273% in Pakistan and 89% in Tanzania. The company has also partnered with Dongfeng Import & Export to develop premium commercial vehicle models for Australia and Europe, supporting Dongfeng's expansion into higher-end segments in those markets.
Today, Dongfeng Cummins products are sold in more than 160 countries and regions worldwide, with overseas business continuing to account for a larger share of total sales.
Growth has also remained strong in the domestic market. In May 2026, Dongfeng Cummins sold 21,634 engines, representing a year-on-year increase of 20.6%. Total sales for the first five months of the year reached 111,000 units, up 18.2% from the same period in 2025.
Beyond on-highway applications, the company continues to expand in construction machinery, power generation, and other industrial sectors. Sales in these non-road segments have reached record levels for five consecutive years.
As it continues to expand globally, Dongfeng Cummins said it will further strengthen cooperation with vehicle manufacturers and local partners, deepen its localization strategy, and provide products and service solutions tailored to the needs of customers in different markets around the world.
