BYD Thailand Surpasses 130,000 EV Deliveries as Local Production Strengthens
BYD Auto Thailand has reached a new milestone, with cumulative deliveries of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Thailand exceeding 130,000 units, highlighting the company’s continued growth and expanding presence in one of Southeast Asia’s key EV markets.
The milestone comes as BYD Thailand celebrates the second anniversary of its Rayong production facility. During the event, BYD also announced the appointment of the brand ambassador for the BYD SEALION 5 DM-i and revealed the pre-sale price of the BYD SEALION 5 DM-i Standard.
The achievements reflect BYD’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its local operations through expanded manufacturing, supply chain development, and a broader product portfolio. The company said it will continue working with local partners to support Thailand’s transition toward green mobility and the growth of the country’s EV industry.
The milestone ceremony was attended by Ke Yubin, General Manager of BYD Auto Thailand, together with business partners, Chinese and Thai media representatives, and customer representatives.
At the event, BYD delivered its 130,000th NEV in Thailand, with the milestone vehicle being a BYD SEALION 5 DM-i. The vehicle was delivered to Usa Samkham, who played the role of “Grandmother” in the Thai film The Letter from Grandma.
The delivery marks another step forward for BYD in Thailand and demonstrates the growing popularity of new energy vehicles among local consumers.
Meanwhile, BYD’s Rayong factory, located in the WHA Industrial Estate in Rayong Province, celebrated two years of operation. As BYD’s first overseas passenger vehicle production facility, the plant has an annual production capacity of 150,000 units.
The factory currently produces five models locally, including the BYD DOLPHIN, BYD ATTO 3, BYD SEAL 5 DM-i, BYD SEALION 5 DM-i, and BYD SEALION 6 DM-i. All five models have received the Made in Thailand (MiT) certification issued by the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).
Since beginning operations, BYD has continued to expand its localization efforts in Thailand. The Rayong facility has created more than 5,000 jobs, with Thai employees accounting for approximately 93% of its workforce. The company has also increased local sourcing of components, with local procurement reaching 50%, helping strengthen Thailand’s automotive supply chain and support the development of the country’s EV ecosystem.
As part of the event, BYD announced that popular Thai actress Lingling Sirilak Kwong has become the brand ambassador for the BYD SEALION 5 DM-i.
With her youthful, confident, and energetic image, Lingling aligns with the model’s positioning as a smart, environmentally friendly, and stylish plug-in hybrid vehicle. BYD and Lingling will launch a series of promotional activities to enhance the model’s visibility in Thailand and introduce more consumers to the advantages of BYD’s DM-i Super Hybrid technology.
BYD also announced the pre-sale price of the BYD SEALION 5 DM-i Standard, further expanding its DM-i hybrid lineup in the Thai market.
Powered by BYD’s DM-i Super Hybrid technology, the new model combines low fuel consumption, long driving range, and strong performance. With competitive pricing and practical features, the model is designed to offer more consumers an accessible way to experience a “fuelable electric vehicle” while meeting diverse mobility needs.
Ke Yubin, General Manager of BYD Auto Thailand, said: “The second anniversary of BYD Thailand’s factory and the milestone of 130,000 vehicle deliveries represent important achievements in our long-term development in Thailand. They also demonstrate Thai consumers’ recognition and trust in the BYD brand.”
“Over the past two years, BYD has continued to strengthen localization, enhance manufacturing capabilities, improve supply chain cooperation, and develop local talent. We are committed to supporting Thailand’s EV industry and contributing to economic growth and the transformation toward green transportation,” he added.
Looking ahead, Ke said BYD will continue to focus on technological innovation, introduce advanced new energy vehicle technologies, enhance products and services, and further expand its local presence in Thailand. The company will also work with partners to support Thailand’s ambition to become an EV hub in the ASEAN region.
The event was also attended by Guo Rui, Chairman of Thai Asia Pacific Group (Volkswagen) Co., Ltd., and Zhang Cheng (Peiyan), Senior Executive Director and CEO, who extended their congratulations on BYD Thailand reaching 130,000 NEV deliveries and the second anniversary of its factory operations.
