Ford December U.S Sales Jump 32.8%
(chinatrucks.com, Jan.6, 2010)Ford confirmed last month that it is nearing a deal to sell its Volvo unit to China-based private automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. Ltd. The firms expect to sign a definitive sale agreement in the first quarter of 2010 and anticipate closing the deal during the second quarter, subject to regulatory approvals.
In the Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brands, car sales jumped 42% year over year to 61,195 units in December, while crossover utility vehicle sales, which include Ford Escape, Edge and Flex, surged 51.3% to 39,056 units, while SUV sales climbed 33.4% to 14,550 units. Truck and van sales rose 18.3% to 64,216 units.
Sales of small car Focus rose 21.7% to 14,205 units in December, while sales of small utility Escape jumped 74.7% to a record 19,156 units.
Ford Fusion sales surged 83.5% to 18,852 units in December, while sales of fuel-efficient mid-size sedan Mercury Milan rose 4.9% to 2,328 units. Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan are the most fuel-efficient mid-size sedans in America.
All-new Ford Taurus sales jumped 109.7% to 7,256 units. December sales of Ford Edge rose 59.4% to 9,463 units.
