Allison Transmission makes large transport more reliable
www.chinatrucks.com: With the first delivery of three Shaanqi SX5600 6X6 large transport tractors equipped with Allison 4700 fully automatic transmissions, the Hunan HuaYuanTong Special Logistics Co.’s large transport fleet has improved its freight capacity. Three additional tractors will be delivered in the near future to transport wind power generation and other large electric power equipment in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other plateau and mountain areas in China.
Wind power generation equipment is ultra-wide and ultra-long, weighing up to 100 tons. Due to the expense of the equipment, demand for reliability is high. The tractors transfer equipment up mountains – starting, climbing and maneuvering at low speeds – while heavily loaded. The Shaanqi SX5600 6X6 large transport tractor is equipped with a Cummins ISXe600 30 engine and an Allison 4700R transmission to handle the extraordinary demands. The Allison Automatic is specially designed for demanding operational conditions and can transfer power from the engine to the drive wheels effectively and without interruption.
“The Allison transmission and Cummins 600-hp engine provide the Shaanqi large transport tractor with easy starts and strong horsepower,” said Liu Lixin, general manager of HuaYuanTong. “Such a high configuration increases traction so the tractor can accomplish transport tasks more easily.”
Transporting the electric power equipment up the mountain is challenging, but Allison’s unique torque converter and retarder are advantageous, enabling vehicle startability and smooth braking even on steep slopes with full loads. After purchasing six large automatic-equipped tractors, HuaYuanTong is confident about transit risk management.
“Allison transmissions have an auxiliary brake function to protect the vehicles from rollback,” said Lixin. “Moreover, automatic transmissions are easy to operate. The convenient and precise operation eliminates frequent shifts and ensures delivery of the wind power generation equipment to the top of the mountain most safely.”
As usage of extra-large electric, petrochemical and machinery equipment becomes more common in China, large domestic transports will increase. Having worked in cooperation to develop these large automatic-equipped transport tractors, which have demonstrated unparalleled performance, Allison and Shaanqi foresee demand continuing to rise. High reliability, high efficiency and easy operation help users meet the demands of the rapidly developing large transport industry.
