JAC Rolls Out First High-End Light Truck at Overseas KD Plant in Algeria
Algeria – 15 Jan. 2026/Chinatrucks.org/ –JAC Group has marked a key milestone at its overseas operations in Algeria with the rollout of the first high-end light truck at its KD assembly plant in Oran.
The vehicle rolled off the production line on January 10, signaling the start of production at the plant and representing progress in a KD assembly project jointly developed by JAC Motors and its Algerian partners over more than a decade.
Under the project plan, batch deliveries of KD kits are scheduled to arrive in Algeria in March 2026. The facility is expected to move into a production ramp-up phase focused on capacity expansion and quality improvement, supporting the gradual rollout of localized mass production.
JAC Motors entered the Algerian market in 2000 and invested USD 140 million in 2014 to build the plant, which is the company’s 19th overseas KD assembly facility. The site has a designed annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles.
The first phase of the project covers the assembly of light trucks, high-end mini trucks, pickup trucks and multipurpose commercial vehicles. It is expected to create around 1,500 direct jobs. Planning for a second phase is underway and is expected to add production of specialized vehicles such as refrigerated trucks, box trucks and dump trucks, along with localized manufacturing of key components including vehicle bodies and cabins. Direct employment is projected to rise to about 3,500 jobs as the project expands.
The plant is also supporting the development of local supply chains and generating additional indirect employment, contributing to broader economic activity in the region.
JAC Motors has built a strong market position in Algeria. The company has exported more than 100,000 vehicles to the country to date and holds an estimated 40% share of the local light truck market. It has also established a nationwide sales and service network with more than 40 outlets.
In addition to manufacturing, JAC Motors has emphasized technology transfer and workforce development. The company provides structured training programs for local employees in vehicle manufacturing, assembly and after-sales services, supporting skills development in Algeria’s automotive sector.
After more than a decade of localization, JAC Motors said it will continue working with its global and local partners, focusing on product quality and innovation, as it expands its overseas manufacturing footprint and supplies locally produced vehicles to international markets.
