China’s Pickup Exports Soar in January 2026, Overseas Sales Top 27,000 Units
China’s pickup truck industry started 2026 with a strong performance. In January, the country produced 49,000 pickups, of which 27,000 were exported, accounting for more than half of total production. This represents a 44% year-on-year increase in exports, setting a new record and highlighting the growing influence of Chinese pickup brands in global markets.
New energy vehicles, particularly plug-in hybrid pickups, have been a key driver behind this export surge.
Domestically, Great Wall Motors continues to dominate the pickup segment, holding around 50% of the market while maintaining its leading position in exports. Other established players, including Jiangling Motors, Changan Automobile, and JAC Motors, alongside emerging brands such as Radar Auto, have also contributed to the rise in both production and exports.
January data shows that sales of new energy pickups reached approximately 6,000 units, led by BYD and Radar Auto, marking more than a 30% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth outpaced the overall pickup market.
Industry analysts predict that China’s pickup exports will continue to expand as automakers launch new models and global infrastructure for new energy vehicles improves.
