New Ford Transit City® Rolls Off the Line, First 1,000 Units to Head Overseas

The new Ford Transit City® has officially rolled off the production line at Jiangling Motors’ Xiaolan plant in Nanchang, China.

Wu Shengbo, Vice President of Ford Motor Company and President and CEO of Ford China and International Markets Group, Qiu Tiangao, Party Secretary and Chairman of Jiangling Group, Xiong Chunying, President of Jiangling Motors Corporation, Zhong Junhua, Party Secretary and First Executive Vice President of Jiangling Motors Corporation, and Ding Wenmin, Deputy Party Secretary and Executive Vice President of Jiangling Motors Corporation, attended the production ceremony.

The first batch of around 1,000 Transit City® vehicles will be shipped to overseas markets.

The Transit City® is the first all-electric commercial vehicle from Ford China to be exported to Europe and other developed markets. The vehicle was developed under Ford’s global product development process and quality standards.

It is designed to meet the requirements of mature markets in areas such as regulations, safety, emissions, data security and sustainability.

The launch also marks another step in Ford China’s “In China, For the World” strategy.

An Electric Van for Urban Delivery

The Ford Transit City® is an all-electric van developed by Ford Pro for modern urban logistics. It is also an important addition to the Transit family, which dates back to 1965.

The vehicle made its global debut in Europe in March 2026.

The Transit City® is available in three body styles: L1H1 van, L2H2 van and Chassis Cab.

It offers a maximum payload of 1,600 kg and up to 8.5 cubic meters of cargo space. This allows the vehicle to serve different urban delivery needs.

The vehicle is powered by a 56 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 110 kW front-mounted electric motor.

It has a maximum WLTP range of 254 km. Actual range may vary depending on temperature, payload, driving style and road conditions.

The vehicle can add 50 km of range with 10 minutes of fast charging.

Compared with conventional diesel models, maintenance costs are expected to be around 40% lower. High-voltage components are covered by an eight-year or 160,000-km warranty.

Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, intelligent speed assistance and adaptive cruise control.

The vehicle also comes with a 12.3-inch central touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

These features are designed to meet the safety and technology requirements of developed markets such as Europe.

Developed and Tested to Global Standards

The new Transit City® was jointly developed by Ford China, Ford’s global engineering teams and Jiangling Motors.

From design and testing to production, the project followed Ford’s global product development process and quality standards.

The vehicle also went through strict global testing.

Its durability testing compressed the equivalent of 10 years and more than 240,000 km of heavy use into a shorter testing period.

Because urban delivery vehicles often operate in stop-and-go conditions, the project also carried out additional durability tests on the side doors, rear cargo doors, electric powertrain and seats.

Jiangling Motors’ Xiaolan plant uses Ford’s global manufacturing and quality control systems.

The successful production and export of the Transit City® show that Jiangling Motors has the product development and manufacturing capabilities needed to meet Ford’s global quality standards and supply developed markets.

From Local Production to Global Supply

Ford and Jiangling Motors began their partnership in 1995.

In that year, the two companies signed an agreement and became long-term strategic partners.

At the end of 1997, the first locally produced Ford Transit rolled off the production line at Jiangling Motors. This marked the beginning of the Transit brand’s development in China.

Nearly 30 years later, the new Transit City®, developed for high-standard markets such as Europe, is now being produced at the same site.

The partnership is entering a new stage — from bringing global products to China to supplying global markets with products made in China.

The Transit City® project combines the strengths of China’s automotive industry with the DNA of the Ford Transit family.

The vehicle will be sold in 52 countries and regions across five continents. It is designed mainly for last-mile delivery in the 1-ton payload class.

The project combines Jiangling Motors’ experience in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) market with the fast development and manufacturing capabilities of China’s new energy vehicle industry.

This gives the project a combination of European standards and China’s development and manufacturing speed.

The export project also marks several firsts.

As Ford China’s first commercial vehicle export project for the European market, the Transit City® has received E1 EU cybersecurity certification and is designed to comply dynamically with EU ESG regulations.

The project provides a new example of a China-made commercial vehicle entering high-standard markets such as Europe.

Looking ahead, the Transit City® will complement the E-Transit Custom and help build Ford Pro’s product lineup in the 1-ton commercial vehicle segment.

The Transit City® opened for orders in Europe in the second quarter of 2026. The first vehicles are expected to be delivered to European customers before the end of the year.
