China automaker JAC to build its 1st o/s plant in Vietnam

(chinatrucks.com, Mar.16 2010)Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co<600418>, the second-largest manufacturer of light trucks in China, is set to kick off construction on a plant in Vietnam in April, the China Daily reported, citing chairman Zuo Yan'an as saying.

The joint venture plant, which will be JAC's first overseas plant, will mainly manufacture medium- and light-duty trucks,  the chairman said on the sidelines of the annual National People's Congress session.

Zuo said that the new plant is part of the company's overseas development, and that the company aims to export 15% of its products to overseas markets by the end of 2015.

The auto maker aims to have a total output of 1 million vehicles by that time and will produce 400,000 units this year, he said.

Last year, the firm's exports to markets in the Middle East, South America and Southeast Asia, the firm's primary markets, amounted to only 6% or 7% of the firm's total output of 322,000 autos.
