Cummins Celebrates Production of Its 1M Gas Engine Turbocharger in China
On October 10, 2024, Cummins marked a significant milestone at its turbocharger technology center in Wuxi, as it produced its one millionth gas engine turbocharger. This achievement highlights Cummins' leading position in technology, quality, and smart manufacturing, supporting Chinese customers in their efforts to operate more efficiently and sustainably.
During the event, Cummins Vice President and President of the Accelera Energy and Components Division, Amy Davis, along with other executives and employees, celebrated this important occasion.
Natural gas is increasingly popular in the Chinese market due to its low emissions and high efficiency. As a key part of the engine's intake system, turbochargers play a vital role in boosting the power of gas engines, increasing torque, reducing fuel consumption, and improving response times. Cummins continues to innovate in turbocharger technology, providing customized solutions to meet the diverse needs of its partners in the industry.
Given the unique operating conditions of gas engines, turbochargers must work reliably under high temperatures and speeds. Cummins' Holset® gas engine turbochargers are designed with advanced aerodynamics and optimized key components to enhance combustion efficiency while delivering dependable performance and lower emissions. These products are widely used in commercial vehicles and industrial applications, earning strong recognition from customers.
At the event, Amy Davis stated, "China is a global leader in the use of clean natural gas energy, and its adoption is rapidly growing. The production of our one millionth gas engine turbocharger is not only a milestone but also a testament to our technological strength in the eyes of our customers. In the context of the global push for carbon reduction, Cummins is committed to offering more low-carbon to zero-carbon solutions to help our Chinese customers transition to a sustainable energy structure."
Cummins has been a key player in turbocharger production in China for 28 years. The company possesses comprehensive capabilities in turbocharger design, analysis, validation, and advanced manufacturing, continually upgrading products suited for the Chinese market. These turbochargers are applied in diesel, natural gas, alternative fuels, and hydrogen solutions, supporting the industry's move toward low-carbon and green development.
To better meet customer demands, Cummins is investing in smart manufacturing and digital technologies. The company has implemented industrial Internet of Things (IoT) technology for smart monitoring of environmental risks and energy data, promoting green and low-carbon manufacturing.
On the gas engine assembly line, Cummins has transitioned from manual assembly to a 7.5 generation automated assembly process, integrating automation and digitization to ensure higher quality and more flexible product delivery. Thanks to its exceptional smart manufacturing capabilities and digital technology applications, Cummins was recognized as a "National Green Factory" in 2023 for its ongoing efforts in green, low-carbon manufacturing.
