Windrose Wins EU e5 WVTA Approval, Clearing Market Access in US and Europe
Windrose Electric has obtained the EU e5 Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) from the Swedish transport authority, becoming the first electric heavy-duty truck manufacturer to secure full vehicle certification in China, the United States and Europe.
The e5 WVTA is the highest level of market access certification for commercial vehicles in the European Union. With the approval, Windrose electric heavy trucks can be sold, registered and licensed across all 27 EU member states as well as Norway.
Windrose vehicles are already present in several European markets, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Hungary and Austria.
By the end of 2025, Windrose will have completed full vehicle certification across the three major markets of China, the United States and Europe, covering regulatory requirements applicable in around 30 countries. Based on these regulatory frameworks, the company expects its vehicles to meet market access requirements in up to 74 countries by the end of 2026.
According to the company, Windrose passed 256 tests in China, receiving 256 certificates and test reports. In Europe, it completed 125 tests and obtained 129 certificates and reports. In the United States, it passed 112 tests and received 174 certificates and reports.

In Europe, commercial vehicle access is structured across multiple approval levels. The e5-level WVTA granted by Sweden represents the highest level, requiring compliance across vehicle safety, environmental performance, product quality and production consistency. The certification also covers future-oriented regulatory requirements, including vehicle cybersecurity under UN R155, software update management under UN R156, and the functional safety of advanced driver assistance systems.
The certified vehicle is the Windrose Global E700 electric heavy truck, which was developed for global operating conditions. The model is equipped with a battery capacity exceeding 700 kWh, designed to support long-haul operations in China, the US and Europe. Built on an 800V high-voltage platform, it supports megawatt-level fast charging and can add approximately 400 km of range in 35 minutes.
Windrose electric heavy trucks have been deployed and tested in 24 countries across five continents. In Australia, the truck set a global record under a total weight of 68 tonnes while climbing an 18% gradient. In the United States, Windrose trucks completed 9,326 km within 14 days during the Run On Less heavy truck range challenge. In Europe, Windrose partnered with CEVA to complete a 1,383 km transport run in Spain with only two charging stops. In China, the company worked with Decathlon to complete a single-trip, 2,253 km zero-carbon freight operation.
Windrose has already delivered vehicles to major logistics customers in China, including Rongqing Logistics and KLN, formerly Kerry Logistics. With full regulatory approval now secured across China, the US and Europe, the company expects to accelerate large-scale global deliveries starting in 2026.
