Domestically-made transmissions roll off production line
(chinatrucks.com, Mar.05, 2010)On the basis of technology introduced from Mitsubishi, Harbin Dong'an Automotive Engine Manufacturing Company independently manufactured China's first batch of automatic transmissions.
Harbin Dong'an Automotive Engine Manufacturing Company invested a total of 2 billion yuan in an automatic transmission project, in a bid to manufacture 300,000 automatic transmissions annually. At present, completion of the first phase project has enabled the company to manufacture 150,000 automatic transmissions in one year. The newly-developed products include 2 series, 4-gear automatic transmissions and 5-gear automatic transmissions, and the company is technologically able to manufacture 6-gear automatic transmissions.
Characterized by its compact size, light weight, low noise and high maneuverability, the newly-made automatic transmissions combine comfort, dynamic performance and cost-effectiveness. When matched with 1.3L—2.4L engines, the transmissions can meet fuel consumption and emissions requirements stipulated in relevant laws and regulations.
There is much room for further development of the automatic transmission sector in China. Data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers shows that the proportion of passenger vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions to total passenger vehicles has reached 28.5 percent. With the expansion of China's automobile market and the increase in Chinese people's purchasing power, more vehicles will be equipped with automatic transmissions.
Established in 1998, Harbin Dong'an Automotive Engine Manufacturing Company is a joint venture between China, Japan and Malaysia, with China holding 70 percent of the shares. Taking advantage of its cooperation with Mitsubishi, Harbin Dong'an Automotive Engine Manufacturing Company acquired automatic transmission technology from Mitsubishi in June 2008.
Currently, Harbin Dong'an Automotive Engine Manufacturing Company has become an important automotive engine and transmission research and manufacturing base in China. The company had manufactured 1.55 million automotive engines and 1.5 million manual transmissions by 2009.
