World's First Hydrogen-Swapping Heavy Truck Unveiled
On August 8, at the 2nd World Hydrogen Industry Expo, Jiening New Energy Tech (Hereafter referred to as Jiening)introduced the world's first hhydrogen-swapping heavy truck.
Jiening’s new “hydrogen swapping” system uses green renewable energy and by-product hydrogen from industries. This system replaces traditional hydrogen refueling stations, solving problems like high costs, approvals difficulty, and low efficiency. It makes hydrogen trucks as affordable as fuel trucks and supports the growth of green, low-carbon transport. In 2023, Jiening Power set up China’s first integrated hydrogen production, refueling, and swapping station in Ulanqab’s Hainan Industrial Park. This station can produce 500 cubic meters of hydrogen per hour, refuel 1,000 kg of hydrogen per day, and swap hydrogen for 150 trucks daily. It can refuel up to 200 hydrogen trucks each day and started trial operations in June 2024. Jiening plans to build 3-5 more similar stations in the next two years to support Ulanqab’s industrial growth and energy transition.
On May 13, Jiening Power signed a cooperation agreement with Beiben and Hydrogen Power Hongyun to expand the hydrogen fuel truck market in Inner Mongolia. They aim to promote 5,000 hydrogen trucks within three years, supported by the Hainan District government. The goal is to push for green, low-carbon transportation and regional development.
Jiening Power’s “hydrogen swapping” model has been widely recognized by strategic partners like State Power Investment Corporation and Baowu Steel Group. It is seen as a key solution for reducing carbon emissions in logistics. Jiening Power is also planned to be a strategic partner in renewable hydrogen production, storage, and application projects.
The “hydrogen swapping” model improves hydrogen pricing and offers a “replicable, safe, and cost-effective” hydrogen supply solution for fuel cell vehicles, making it a top choice for large-scale hydrogen use in transportation.
