Tonly Unveils 1ST 91-Ton Battery-Swappable Truck for Rio Tinto
Tonly Heavy Industries recently hosted a launch event at its Xipo facility for the 91-ton DTE145 battery-swappable mining truck, developed in partnership with Qiyuan New Energy. This new mining truck will soon join the fleet of global mining leader Rio Tinto, providing a safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly transport solution.
As a major force in mineral exploration, extraction, and processing, Rio Tinto is committed to reducing its environmental footprint, aiming for a 50% reduction in operational emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Rio Tinto’s pilot program with the electric battery-swappable DTE145 marks an important step toward these sustainability goals.
In recent years, rapid advances in new energy and smart technologies have driven significant upgrades in the transport industry. Tonly Heavy Industries has actively embraced these developments to support the sustainable evolution of mining transport solutions.
Since 2015, Tonly has been a pioneer in eco-friendly mining equipment, launching the industry’s first pure electric wide-body truck using lithium-titanate batteries. Today, Tonly offers a range of products that include electric, battery-swappable, hybrid, hydrogen fuel cell, and wire-controlled vehicles, forming a comprehensive lineup of safe, green, and intelligent options.
In 2019, Tonly teamed up with Qiyuan New Energy to enhance its electric product offerings. Combining Tonly's expertise in mining transport technology and Qiyuan's strengths in green energy and logistics services, the two companies have collaborated to develop solutions that meet the needs of heavy-duty mining operations. After introducing a 70-ton model, they have now unveiled the upgraded 91-ton DTE145, which is already in use at several large-scale open-pit mines in China and will soon operate in a Mongolian copper mine. This launch marks a new chapter in Tonly and Qiyuan’s international expansion.
