IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026 to Feature Over 150 World Premieres and New Products

Hanover, September 3, 2026 — IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026 is set to highlight the latest developments in the global commercial vehicle and transport industry, with more than 150 world premieres and new products to be presented at the event in Hanover, Germany. German Federal Minister for Transport Steffen Bilger will officially open the event, with other prominent speakers at the opening ceremony including Lower Saxony’s Minister-President Olaf Lies, Hannover’s Mayor Belit Onay, and the President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), Hildegard Müller.

Under this year's theme, “We Deliver,” the show will focus on the future of road freight transport, including new drive technologies, digital solutions, climate-neutral mobility and automated driving.

The road freight sector serves as a vital cornerstone of the economy. In Germany, road freight accounted for approximately 84% of total transport volume in 2024, covering more than 20 billion kilometers and moving around 2.8 billion metric tons of goods. Furthermore, the commercial vehicle industry directly employs around 140,000 people, representing roughly one in five automotive industry jobs in the country.

The strong international presence remains one of the key features of IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026. More than 70% of exhibitors come from outside Germany, while around one-third of exhibitors are participating in the event for the first time. The figures underline the show's role as an international platform for commercial vehicles, logistics and transport.

Suppliers and body manufacturers also account for a major part of the exhibition. More than 766 suppliers will take part, making them the largest exhibitor group, while 240 body manufacturers will also be present.

Electrification and hydrogen remain key topics

The transition toward climate-neutral road transport will be a major focus of the show.

According to the VDA, battery-electric trucks with ranges of more than 500 kilometers are already available, while hydrogen-powered trucks can achieve ranges of around 700 to 800 kilometers.

However, the industry says infrastructure development is still lagging behind vehicle technology.

By 2030, Europe is expected to need around 35,000 publicly available MCS fast-charging points for heavy-duty vehicles, including about 4,000 in Germany. Up to 50,000 truck-capable charging points could be required across the EU.

At present, only around 730 charging points with an output of more than 350 kW are available exclusively for heavy-duty commercial vehicles across the EU. In addition, there are just under 2,000 public charging points at mixed-use locations.

Hydrogen infrastructure faces a similar challenge. Europe currently has around 216 hydrogen refueling stations for road freight, while approximately 2,000 truck-capable stations with a daily capacity of roughly 2 metric tons of hydrogen each could be required by 2030.

VDA President Hildegard Müller emphasized that while the automotive industry has delivered on technology and made substantial investments, progress now depends heavily on political action. Müller warned that the current EU CO₂ fleet regulation imposes penalties that present a threat to the survival of many transport and commercial vehicle companies, and she urged policymakers to align these targets with the reality of lagging infrastructure. Furthermore, she called on policymakers in Brussels and Berlin to put their full weight behind the international competitiveness of Germany and Europe as business locations.

More vehicles, test drives and industry discussions

IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026 will also offer visitors more opportunities to experience new commercial vehicle technologies directly.

A total of 84 vehicles from 17 exhibitors will be available for test drives, both on the show grounds and on public roads. This represents a 40% increase compared with 2024.

The IAA Conference will bring together more than 200 speakers across three stages, with discussions covering electrification, software-defined vehicles and the economic resilience of the commercial vehicle industry.

To put the people behind logistics center stage, the event will host a "Drivers’ and Family Weekend" on September 19 and 20. Conveniently coinciding with World Children’s Day on September 20, the weekend aims to express special appreciation for the truck drivers whose hard daily work keeps the economy running.

Around 580 journalists from around the world are expected to attend, while exhibitors have registered 112 press conferences for Press Day.

With its large international exhibitor base, more than 150 new products and growing focus on electrification, hydrogen and automation, IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026 is expected to provide a broad view of where the global commercial vehicle industry is heading.
