BYD Joins United Nations Global Compact
On September 14, 2026, BYD Company Limited officially joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), committing to uphold its Ten Principles and integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its business strategy and daily operations.
Established in 2000, the UNGC is a global initiative that encourages businesses to adopt responsible practices in four areas: human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption. It supports companies in addressing global challenges and contributing to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The organization has more than 25,000 corporate participants in over 160 countries and regions, working with businesses and partners to advance sustainability.
BYD’s new energy vehicle business now spans more than 100 countries and regions, where the company provides consumers with technologies and products designed to support greener transportation. Guided by its vision of “Cooling the Earth by 1°C,” BYD continues to make sustainability a part of its global operations.
In 2022, BYD stopped producing vehicles powered solely by internal combustion engines and announced a target of achieving carbon neutrality across its entire value chain by 2045. In 2025, the company launched its DREAMS sustainability strategy, focusing on six areas: green and low-carbon development, innovation and transformation, equal opportunities, collaboration, integrity and shared value.
In 2025, BYD sold 4.6 million new energy vehicles. According to the company, these vehicles helped reduce carbon emissions by 46.6 million tonnes, equivalent to the estimated carbon absorption of 776 million trees. BYD also established a RMB 3 billion education charity fund to support university scholarships and promote public understanding of new energy vehicle technologies.
Joining the UNGC marks another step in BYD’s sustainability efforts. The company said it will continue to uphold the UNGC’s Ten Principles, strengthen responsible business practices and work with partners across its value chain to support broader global sustainability goals.
