China auto exports rally, may rise more in '10
(chinatrucks.com, Jan.8, 2010)China's auto exports in November 2009 posted their first year-on-year increase in 15 months, a sign of recovery that will get more boost from rising global demand this year, Shanghai Daily reported this week.
China exported 40,600 vehicles in November, up 13.4% from a year earlier, said the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). It was the first annual rise since August 2008, when overseas sales plunged amid the global economic recession.
November's export increase was mainly driven by cars, which grew 27% year on year to 14,500 units, while exports of vans and buses continued to decline.
For the first 11 months of last year, China's total auto exports dropped 49% to 325,800 vehicles, CAAM said. Exports were only a small part of overall auto sales last year, which are estimated to reach 13.5 million units.
Chery Auto recently reported its vehicle exports had jumped 41% in December to 7,593 units. The Great Wall Motor said it exported about 40,000 vehicles last year.
Experts said China's auto exports would be further boosted this year by the better global demand and economic environment, which would give Chinese carmakers a competitive edge.
