"Dongfeng Race Team" Exclusively Titled by DFCV Boosts Chinese Offshore Sailing Campaign

Its worldwide-selected skipper and candidate crew is also unveiled and show up to the public. Exclusively titled by Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd.(hereafter abbreviated as DFCV), Chinese leading Medium and Heavy Duty Truck Manufacturer, "Dongfeng Race Team" will set sail to compete in world premier sailing events, boosting the development of Chinese offshore sailing business.

Over ten Chinese candidate crew that have undergone several rounds of severe and tough professional selection have captured focus on this debut, thus making Dongfeng Race Team with the highest ever proportion of Chinese crew members in Volvo ocean race. Charles Caudrelier from France, a top-class professional sailor, has been officially appointed as the team skipper after global recruitment through today’s announcement by Qin Jie who is in charge of DFCV brand management, communication and Dongfeng Race Team project.
Invited by DFCV, Zhang Ning, twice Olympic badminton women's singles champion and Guo Chuan, the first Chinese solo non-stop circumnavigator have smashed the champagne bottle at the bow together with Tong Dongcheng, vice president of Dongfeng Motor Corporation. All present guests have sent genuine blessings to the team.

DFCV joins hands with Volvo Ocean Race to promote Dongfeng brand worldwide. This is a specific move towards synergies between the parties under the background of DFG & AB Volvo strategic alliance set up in January last year, as well as an important part of the global market strategy of "Dongfeng" brand commercial vehicle business. By actively participating in the Volvo Ocean Race, DFCV will consolidate closer bilateral partnerships to jointly promote "Dongfeng" brand to be world-known.
The ultimate 3-4 Chinese crew list on behalf of "Dongfeng Race team" to compete in Volvo Ocean Race will be announced in June this year. Since the inception of global recruitment, the team has always been keen to seek Chinese candidates and global premier sailors willing to push the envelope. The shore team and onboard reporter are ongoing to recruit. Volvo ocean race will start from Alicante, Spain on October 4, this year and arrive in Gothenburg, Sweden on anticipated June 27, 2015. It will cover 38,739 nautical miles with 10 stopover cities. At least 7 teams with global premier sailors will compete in the race.

About Volvo Ocean Race
The 12th edition of Volvo Ocean Race (VOR for short) in 2014-15 will mark its history of 40 years this year. It began life as the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1973 and covers a total distance of 39,270 nautical miles (45,000 miles or 72,000 kilometres) .
The new edition of the Volvo Ocean Race will start on October 4, 2014, the day of the first In-Port Race in Alicante. Moreover, it will include stopovers in Cape Town (South Africa), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Sanya (China), Auckland (New Zealand), Itajaí (Brazil), Newport (Rhode Island, US), Lisbon (Portugal), Lorient (France), and finish with one last In-Port Race on June 27, 2015 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
These next two editions of the race will be contested in a new high-performance yacht, the Volvo Ocean 65, designed by Farr Yacht Design in the United States and built by a consortium of boatyards in the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Switzerland.
The new 65-foot (19.8-metre) racing yachts will be strictly One Design and delivered “ready to sail”. The new concept will help significantly reduce the cost of mounting a competitive campaign.
The new boat is being designed and built with the latest video, satellite and content production facilities to further enhance the work being done in the unique Onboard Reporter program.
Dongfeng boat, in the newly One-Design Volvo Ocean 65, is finished after a course of 18 weeks period of construction in UK. The training for the Academy Squads in the Dongfeng Race Team began shortly after Vo65 Dongfeng’s arrival in China, also joined by sailors from some other countries. Then, they will sail from China back to Europe, effectively half of the Volvo Ocean Race course.
