Dongfeng Closed an Old Plant with a Capacity of 40,000 Units/yr

Dongfeng on 28 June closed an old plant with a capacity of 40,000 units/yr and relocated to a new plant with a 60,000 units/yr capacity. The Hubei-based company suspended operations in February and March during the Covid-19 outbreak, with its sales starting to rebound from April when the pandemic eased in China.

Dongfeng's sales of medium and heavy trucks have increased for three consecutive months since April following a recovery in the transportation and construction industries after Covid-19 lockdown restrictions were removed in China. Its sales in June rose to 23,694 units, up by 49.24pc from a year earlier.

The firm has decided not to adjust its sales target of 200,000 units for 2020 despite the suspensions in February and March, given the rapid recovery in subsequent months. It achieved more than 50pc of its target in this year's first half, climbing by 9.56pc from a year earlier to 106,619 units.
