BYD Launches 1st Ever Hybrid Pickup Truck SHARK in Mexico
Much has been written about the new BYD Shark 2025, but finally, after so many previews and leaks, this hybrid pickup debuted on May 14 in Mexico City.

BYD claimed that the Shark's front design is inspired by a shark's open mouth. The rest of the lines are straight and muscular, with smooth surfaces and large taillights, also interconnected by a thick LED bar running through the tailgate.

This truck is mounted on the new DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) platform and is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain (PHEV) composed of a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, which works in conjunction with a pair of electric motors, whose combined power is 430 horsepower.
The lithium iron phosphate battery pack is from the Blade family, so it is integrated into the chassis and, according to the brand's words, it is the safest on the market as it does not produce fire if it is punctured in an accident or blow.

The Shark PHEV boasts a total range of 840 km, of which 100 kilometers can be driven completely electrically (as long as the battery is fully charged). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 5.7 seconds and combined fuel consumption is 13.3 km/l. In fast charging, 40 kW, it can go from 30 to 80% in just 20 minutes. It can also be recharged on a home charger, with a power output of 3.3 kW.
In terms of passenger safety, the new 2025 Shark has 6 airbags, while standing out for its level 2 autonomous driving, with 10 functions, including the following ADAS: adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, among other driving assistance.

This midsize pickup is one of the largest in the segment, measuring 5,457 mm long by 1,971 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 3,260 mm.Regarding its load capacity, a volume of 1,450 liters is presumed; It is capable of carrying up to 835 kilograms and can tow up to 2,500 kilograms.
At the moment, this truck only has a pre-sale available at the brand's dealers. The firm expects it to be a success in Mexico, as they brought this global launch to Mexico (the first one that the firm carries out outside China) because Mexico is one of the ones with the highest growth in the sale of pickups worldwide.
