Foton's Success in Africa Boosts China-Africa Cooperation
In September 2024, the Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was held in Beijing, where leaders from several African countries gathered to mark a new chapter in China-Africa friendship and cooperation. As a major contributor to China-Africa economic and trade relations, Foton Motor has achieved notable progress in the African market over the past 20 years, significantly enriching the partnership.
Foton Motor's Success in Africa
Since entering the African market in 2004, Foton Motor has steadily increased its market share and brand influence. In 2024, marking the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, Foton Motor achieved impressive results in Africa. In Nigeria, 120 AUMAN heavy trucks and 150 VAN buses were put into service, enhancing local cargo and passenger transport. In Zambia, 150 AUMAN heavy trucks were successfully repurchased. In Ethiopia, 100 custom AUMAN heavy trucks received widespread praise, and a memorandum of understanding for future bulk purchases was signed. In Senegal, the first batch of 100 medium and heavy trucks was delivered, advancing local projects.

Foton Motor has not only excelled in logistics and infrastructure but has also deeply integrated into the market through strategic planning and localization efforts. In South Africa, Foton launched the "Lighthouse Plan," introducing both ICE and BEV products and establishing a comprehensive dealer network. In Zimbabwe, Foton held a new product launch event in collaboration with local dealers. At FILDA 2024 in Angola, Foton showcased the outstanding performance of its entire product range.

Foton Motor's Commitment to Africa
Foton Motor is dedicated to expanding in Africa with the philosophy of "Rather than competing for a small pie, it's better to create a bigger one." The company has established KD factories, parts warehouses, and training centers in Ethiopia, Egypt, Kenya, Ghana, and Tanzania. This expansion has created over 10,000 jobs and provided training for more than 10,000 people, thereby boosting local industry and employment.
Foton Motor has also announced a development strategy for the African market. This plan includes three 3-year action phases to build capabilities across the full value chain, including products, networks, services, parts, finance, and talent, aiming to become a leading commercial vehicle brand in Africa. The company will continue to invest heavily, enhance brand influence, and market share, and build trust with African customers through high-quality products and reliable services.
Guided by China-Africa cooperation, Foton's heavy commercial vehicle exports to Africa increased by 153% from January to August. Looking ahead, Foton Motor will remain open, invest more in the African market, and work with partners to drive economic and social development in Africa, contributing more Chinese wisdom and strength.
