New FOTON Store Opens in Tema, Ghana
On April 15, FOTON officially opened its new store in Tema, Ghana, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion across West Africa.

As a key member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Ghana hosted over 200 distinguished guests at the opening ceremony, including government officials, business leaders, industry clients, and major media outlets. Among them were Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Ghana’s Minister of Trade and Industry, and Salem Kalmoni, President of Japan Motors, who jointly officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony—signaling a new chapter in FOTON’s West Africa strategy.

Since entering Ghana in 2008, FOTON has steadily built its presence through technology transfer and localization efforts.
Leveraging the Ghanaian government’s KD policy, FOTON—together with its local partner Japan Motors—has pioneered local assembly of a full range of light commercial vehicles, including light trucks, mini trucks, vans, and pickups. In the first quarter of 2025, FOTON’s commercial vehicle sales in Ghana soared by 350% year-on-year, with its localized light commercial models ranking among the top in market share—laying a solid foundation for future growth.

The new FOTON Ghana store covers 3 hectares and features 13 major vehicle models, such as the AUMAN automatic tractor, AUMAN dump truck, AUMARK light trucks, TM mini trucks, VIEW vans, and the TUNLAND G7 pickup. These models are tailored to meet diverse demands in logistics, construction, urban transportation, and emergency services. The showroom incorporates immersive displays and live demonstrations, allowing visitors to experience vehicle performance and smart technologies firsthand.
During the ceremony, Minister Ofosu-Adjare praised FOTON’s longstanding contribution to Ghana’s commercial vehicle sector.
She highlighted the company’s role in advancing the local automotive industry through technology, product innovation, and service excellence—especially its efforts in promoting green transportation and economic development.

Salem Kalmoni, President of Japan Motors, also acknowledged FOTON’s strong support in areas such as sales networks, after-sales service, parts supply, and financial solutions, which have fueled Japan Motors’ steady growth in Ghana. He expressed confidence in continued collaboration to further strengthen their market position.
Looking ahead to 2025, FOTON Ghana will prioritize SKD operations for medium and heavy trucks, as well as light commercial vehicles, with a sales target of over 1,500 units. The company also plans to expand its distribution channels, grow its base of industry clients, and enhance localization across manufacturing, service, talent development, and IoV applications. Through industry summits, customer experience events, and targeted marketing, FOTON aims to better address local market needs and further boost its brand influence.
The launch of this new store represents more than just a business expansion—it reflects the deepening cooperation between China and Africa.
With its fully localized value chain and innovative business model, FOTON is committed to its mission of “Quality First, Creating Value for Customers.” The company will continue playing an active role in modernizing Africa’s transportation industry and driving sustainable growth in the region’s automotive sector.
