WEICHAI TRUCK Ships First Batch of Electric Buses to Southeast Asia
WEICHAI TRUCK has shipped 22 BEV Truck Chassis Busto Southeast Asia, marking its first export of electric buses. The vehicles were recently loaded at Lianyungang Port in China and shipped to the company’s dealer partners in the region. The shipment marks a new step in WEICHAI TRUCK’s overseas bus business and expands its range of commercial vehicles for international markets.
As Southeast Asia moves toward greener transport, demand for zero-emission buses for public transport and daily commuting is growing. WEICHAI TRUCK offers electric buses for a range of applications, including industrial park shuttles, scheduled passenger services and employee transport. The different configurations help local operators choose vehicles that suit their needs.

Built on a proven truck chassis platform, the electric buses measure about 6.5 to 6.7 meters long. They are available in narrow-body and wide-body versions, offering stable load-bearing performance and flexible body configurations. The narrow-body model has an 81.52 kWh LFP battery, a 105 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, seating for 23 passengers plus the driver, and a range of 220 km. The wide-body model features a 100.46 kWh LFP battery, a 120 kW motor, seating for 31 passengers plus the driver, and a range of 260 km. The two options meet different needs for passenger capacity and driving range.
The powertrain combines WEICHAI TRUCK’s electric vehicle systems with a HANDE integrated rear axle, working with a permanent magnet synchronous motor to deliver power efficiently. A liquid cooling and heating system manages the battery, motor and electronic controls. Even at -20°C, the system maintains 90% of battery discharge capacity. The chassis also adjusts power output to vehicle load, helping reduce energy consumption and operating costs.

The chassis features a reinforced HANDE rear axle, a high-strength frame and an optimized suspension system for reliable load-bearing performance and stable handling on city roads, in industrial parks and on intercity routes. The rear axle’s main reducer has an oil-change interval of five years or 300,000 km. Maintenance-free core components help reduce routine maintenance and long-term operating costs.

The buses feature three-step entry for easier boarding and ergonomic fabric seats for passenger comfort.

The shipment marks progress in WEICHAI TRUCK’s partnership with its Southeast Asian dealers. The company will continue to expand its electric commercial vehicle lineup to meet local needs, with products for public transport, industrial park shuttles and passenger services, supporting the region’s transition to greener transport.
