BAIC FOTON Launches GALAXUS R5 and C5 Heavy-Duty Trucks in Africa
BAIC FOTON officially launched its GALAXUS R5 and GALAXUS C5 heavy-duty trucks in Africa on October 29 at its Africa Partner Conference, themed “Drive to Great.” The two models target different transport applications. The GALAXUS R5 is designed for long-haul transportation, while the GALAXUS C5 is built for heavy-duty operations on challenging roads, including those in mining and forestry areas. Both models focus on fuel efficiency, safety, load capacity and reliability.
As trade and industrial cooperation across Africa continue to grow, demand for efficient long-distance transportation and trucks capable of handling heavy loads and difficult road conditions is increasing. To meet these needs, BAIC FOTON has developed the two models based on its heavy-duty truck technologies, with adaptations for local road and climate conditions.

GALAXUS R5: Designed for Efficient and Comfortable Long-Haul Transport
The GALAXUS R5 targets cross-border transportation, port logistics and fuel transportation. It focuses on fuel efficiency, driving safety and comfort to meet the demands of long-distance operations.

The truck has a drag coefficient of 0.476 and offers two powertrain options: a FOTON Cummins engine paired with a ZF transmission, and a Yuchai engine paired with a Wanliyang transmission. Its aerodynamic design and powertrain combinations are optimized to balance transport efficiency and fuel economy, helping fleets reduce fuel costs during long-distance and high-frequency operations.
Safety and driver comfort are also important for long-haul transportation. The GALAXUS R5 has passed the ECE R29.03 frontal crash test and undergone cab rearward displacement testing to improve cab safety. It also features a wider sleeper berth, a spacious cab and new-generation Grammer seats to improve driver comfort during long-distance journeys.
The GALAXUS R5 has also undergone climate adaptation testing for different African conditions, including high temperatures, coastal areas and high-altitude regions. BAIC FOTON offers a warranty of 3 years or 450,000 km for the model. These product features and warranty support are designed to help customers maintain efficient and reliable operations across Africa.
GALAXUS C5: Built for Heavy Loads and Challenging Road Conditions
The GALAXUS C5 is designed for heavy-duty applications such as mining, timber transportation and the transport of large engineering materials. It focuses on improved road accessibility, load capacity and durability to meet the demands of industrial transport in Africa.

To improve performance on difficult roads, the GALAXUS C5 features a high-mounted bumper and a ground clearance of more than 750 mm. It has an approach angle of 30.5° and a breakover angle of 31°. These features improve the truck's ability to navigate challenging roads in mining and forestry areas.

For heavy-load operations, the truck is equipped with a 700L high-strength steel frame, a 16-ton 300 drive axle and heavy-duty suspension. Its reinforced frame structure further improves load capacity. The platform has completed a total of 860,000 km of road reliability testing, supporting the truck's long-term use in transporting minerals, timber and large engineering materials.

The GALAXUS C5 is also designed to withstand Africa's hot, humid, dusty and coastal environments. It features 58 anti-corrosion measures, and all exterior body panels are made of galvanized steel. The model has undergone 1,000 hours of weather resistance testing and 720 hours of salt spray testing. These measures help protect the truck against corrosion and improve its durability in challenging operating environments.

The launch of the GALAXUS R5 and C5 further expands BAIC FOTON's heavy-duty truck lineup in Africa, covering both long-haul transportation and heavy-duty industrial applications. With its manufacturing base in South Africa and an expanding regional sales and service network, BAIC FOTON will continue to adapt its products to local market needs and strengthen its local operations. The company aims to provide efficient and reliable transport solutions for logistics and industrial customers across Africa.
