FAW TRUCKS Introduces CTB Battery Platform and New Electric Heavy-Duty Trucks
FAW TRUCKS has launched a new CTB (Cell-to-Body) battery platform and unveiled a new generation of electric heavy-duty trucks built around the technology at an event held in Qingdao on May 29.
Developed in partnership with EVE Energy, the CTB battery is designed to improve vehicle efficiency, reduce weight, and enhance safety. The technology will be deployed across several FAW TRUCKS electric truck models, including the JH6 and Yingchi tractor series.

One of the key features of the new battery system is its compact design. With a pack height of less than one meter, the CTB battery is approximately 44% lower than comparable battery systems currently available on the market. According to FAW TRUCKS, the lower profile helps reduce the vehicle's center of gravity, improving stability while preserving rearward visibility from the cab.

The battery also incorporates a dual-sided liquid cooling system, allowing temperature management from both the top and bottom of the pack. The company says the design improves thermal consistency, reduces energy loss, and contributes to lower operating energy consumption.

Alongside the battery launch, FAW TRUCKS introduced CTB-equipped versions of its JH6 and Yingchi electric tractors. The vehicles are available with battery capacities ranging from 400 kWh to 448 kWh and are targeted at applications including bulk material transport, regional freight operations, urban logistics, and short-haul distribution.

The JH6 6×4 electric tractor features a flat-floor cab with a standing height of 2,050 mm and 460 liters of storage space. It is equipped with FAW TRUCKS' VCU 2.0 vehicle control system and the new CTB battery architecture. The company reports that overall vehicle energy consumption has been reduced by 25% compared with the previous generation. Integration of the battery pack with the high-strength steel chassis also contributes to a weight reduction of between 500 and 800 kilograms.

FAW TRUCKS also showcased the Yingchi 6×4 electric tractor, which features the company's latest Eagle-series flat-floor cab. The model incorporates a high-strength steel frame and cage-style body structure designed to combine durability with lightweight construction. The version equipped with a 400 kWh CTB battery has a curb weight of 9.21 tonnes, making it suitable for high-frequency short-haul and resource transport operations where payload capacity is a key consideration.

The launch reflects FAW TRUCKS' continued investment in battery-electric commercial vehicles as competition intensifies in China's heavy-duty truck market. By combining a new battery architecture with purpose-built electric truck platforms, the company aims to improve operating efficiency and expand the range of applications for zero-emission freight transport.
The new CTB battery and vehicle lineup form part of FAW TRUCKS' broader strategy to expand its electric truck portfolio and support the growing adoption of battery-powered commercial vehicles across logistics and freight sectors.
