FAW TRUCKS Expands Dealer Network in South Africa Amid Strong Sales Growth
FAW TRUCKS has expanded its footprint in South Africa by opening four new dealerships, following strong sales growth that saw the company lead commercial vehicle sales in the country for four consecutive months.

Between January and April 2025, FAW’s monthly truck sales rose from 334 to 456 units, placing the Chinese manufacturer ahead of established competitors such as Isuzu and Daimler in the commercial segment.
To support increasing demand, FAW TRUCKS has partnered with Laubstar Holdings to open new dealership locations in Lichtenburg, Potchefstroom, Upington, and Kathu. The new sites aim to improve service coverage for customers in the agriculture, mining, and logistics sectors by offering sales, repair, and spare parts support.
“Our goal is to provide reliable, cost-effective trucks backed by strong local service,” a FAW TRUCKS South Africa spokesperson said during a launch event. “These new locations are part of our strategy to serve high-demand areas more effectively.”
Mikel Mabasa, CEO of the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), said FAW’s ability to adapt to market conditions, deliver value, and build local service networks has made it more resilient in a competitive environment.
According to NAAMSA data, sales of medium-duty commercial vehicles in April 2025 increased 10.2% year-over-year, while sales of heavy trucks and buses declined 11.1%, suggesting a shift in market demand. FAW’s regional expansion is viewed as a strategic response to this shift.

The new Laubstar-operated dealerships offer full-service capabilities and are expected to benefit operators in remote and industrial areas. They will also contribute to local employment and skills development.
Laubstar said its approach centers on matching the right trucks to the right customers, including large farms and mining enterprises. The company also provides parts and operational support to ensure vehicle uptime.

Looking ahead, FAW TRUCKS plans to continue expanding its dealer network, enhance after-sales support, and introduce more vehicles tailored to South African conditions. The company is also investing 200 million rand to expand its Coega factory, increasing annual production capacity from 5,000 to 8,000 units.
South Africa’s truck market is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 1.77% through 2029, with the logistics sector expected to reach $137.4 billion by 2030. FAW TRUCKS aims to strengthen its position through competitively priced, dependable products and ongoing investment in local partnerships.
