FAW TRUCKS Mini Truck Project Targets 2026 Mass Production
FAW TRUCKS has started trial production at its new mini truck commercial vehicle project in the Qingdao Automotive Industry New City, marking a key step toward mass production planned for 2026.
Once fully operational, the facility will be capable of producing both fuel-powered and new energy mini trucks on shared production lines, with a planned annual capacity of 100,000 units.
Located north of Dazhong 1st Road in Jimo District, Qingdao, the project covers approximately 183,700 square meters, with a total built-up area of about 120,000 square meters. The facility is being developed through the renovation and upgrade of the former Hailong Automobile City plant. The work includes upgrades to the joint workshop, the construction of a dedicated mini truck welding workshop, and renovations to the painting and final assembly workshops, enabling flexible mixed production of conventional and new energy vehicles at FAW TRUCKS’ Qingdao base.
Construction of the project began in January 2025. Major renovation work was completed in June, and the first vehicle rolled off the production line in October. The project has now entered the trial production phase and is scheduled to begin mass production in 2026.
At full capacity, the facility is expected to produce up to 100,000 mini trucks annually. The first phase of the project will support an annual output of 50,000 vehicles.
